In recent years, Israel has been dealing with demands for more modesty in the public sphere, and to adjust to religious standards which has resulted in incidents of gender discrimination. The exclusion of women ’for God's sake’ has become a litmus test for the infiltration of ultra-Orthodox norms into state definitions of religious requirements in the public sphere. This session presents an overview of landmark victories over gender segregation and exclusion and will look at current challenges in this delicate area.
