Business has become increasingly frustrated with government’s failure to address the constraints holding back growth and investment in South Africa, and some business leaders have been extremely vocal on the threat posed by a “failed state”. The partnership that the private sector - through Business for SA - forged with the public sector during the Covid crisis was very important In helping South Africa soften the worst effects of the crisis - for example to ensure the vaccine rollout. But has government capitalised on the opportunity? Does it have an appetite for the partnership of equals with business that’s needed to tackle the economic crisis?
